Scottsdale Country Club is entering a new chapter, bringing back its historic name while transforming the longtime golf property into a more community-focused destination ahead of its 75th anniversary.
From ranch to range: The property dates back to 1953, when it opened as Sundown Ranch with stables, horseback riding, cottages and $2 tee times. It became Scottsdale Country Club in 1959 and later transitioned into the public course known as Starfire. Now, Scottsdale natives and Swing First Golf are restoring its original identity as “The People’s Country Club,” welcoming golfers and families of all levels.
More than a golf course: Open to the public year-round, the property features an 18-hole championship course, The Shooter 10-hole short course and the free nine-hole Bandana Putting Course. The practice range offers covered TrackMan bays, with range balls available directly from a credit-card machine—no pro shop check-in needed. Hours are 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday and until 5:30 p.m. Monday, with last balls at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday.
The Robin’s Nest Airstream coffee shop and beer garden is also open near the clubhouse, while the Cowboy Cool Bar & Patio is planned for late 2026 or 2027.

Movie nights are going old school at Downtown Phoenix’s historic Orpheum Theatre, with its annual film series returning September through December. The lineup includes Spaceballs, Back to the Future, Psycho, Home Alone and other fan favorites.
Flexjet has broken ground on a $36 million private terminal at Scottsdale Airport. The two-story facility will include a passenger terminal, offices and a maintenance hangar, with an opening targeted for late 2026.
The 2026 Arizona State Fair opens Thursday, Oct. 1 at noon at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix and runs through Nov. 1, with this year’s Coliseum concert lineup featuring Gin Blossoms, Becky G, All Time Low, The Offspring, Russell Dickerson and Public Enemy. For a limited time, grab two fair admission tickets for $30, including taxes and fees; concert tickets are sold separately but include fair admission.
Saguaro Lake Ranch Stables opens Sept. 1 at 3050 N. Bush Hwy, Mesa, offering 75-minute horseback rides through the Sonoran Desert. Group rides are $110 at 8 a.m., while sunset rides are $125 at 5:15 p.m.; lodging guests receive 15% off, and the stables are closed Wednesdays.
Revival Wellness Yoga in the Park returns to Scottsdale Civic Center on Sept. 17, with check-in at 5:45 p.m. and yoga at 6:30 p.m. The evening includes a live DJ, cold plunge, mini games, prizes and local wellness vendors. All levels are welcome; bring a yoga mat and water.
Rodeo Rose Market returns to Scottsdale Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring secondhand fashion, handmade goods, beauty services, flowers, coffee, mocktails and other women-owned vendors.
Harry & Izzy’s has opened its first Arizona location at 12770 N. Tatum Blvd., Phoenix. The Indianapolis-based restaurant brings its steakhouse concept to the Scottsdale area as the surrounding Paradise Valley development continues to grow.
